Robert S. Wolff, M.D. Robert S. Wolff, MD, was raised in central California, and went on to graduate from Amherst College in Massachusetts. In 1991, he received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He then completed his ophthalmology training at the University of Minnesota in 1995, during which he was a recipient of the Minnesota Sight and Hearing Association Research Award. Following that, Dr. Wolff spent time in Anchorage, providing emergency eye care for the state of Alaska. Seeking a return to his western roots, Dr. Wolff joined a practice in Reno in 1996, where he spent over seven years building a reputation for high quality eye care that patients could depend on. Finding the Carson-Gardnerville-Tahoe region underserved, Dr. Wolff opened Sierra Nevada Eye Center, Ltd in Carson City in 2004, where patients can receive the same high quality ophthalmic care that he is known for. Dr. Wolff opened his Reno office in 2008.

Dr. Wolff is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He also is a recipient of the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.

Gary A. Pomeranz, M.D.Gary A. Pomeranz, MD graduated from the University of Colorado in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned his Medical Doctorate at the University of Colorado Medical Center in 1974. He completed a medical-surgical internship in New York through a Columbia University affiliated hospital. Following this internship he served two years as a Family Physician in the Public Health Service providing comprehensive medical-surgical care to a small rural community in Washington State. Dr. Pomeranz then completed a three-year residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington in Seattle, training in diseases and surgery of the eyes. He and his family moved to Reno in 1980, where he established his surgical practice. Dr. Pomeranz is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has built a reputation for the highest caliber of professional skills and personalized care.

Michael Westafer, MD was raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida and went on attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed his undergraduate studies, followed by his medical degree in 2012.  He then pursued training in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia. During this time, Dr. Westafer won numerous awards, including the Resident Research Award, and the Nussbaum & Goei Award for the ophthalmology resident with the highest OKAP test score.  Following completion of the ophthalmology residency, he pursued a glaucoma fellowship with the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.  Dr. Westafer is a fellowship-trained glaucoma surgeon, specializing in the treatment of all forms of glaucoma.  He also offers expertise in cataract surgery and the treatment of a variety of other ocular diseases.  Outside the office, Dr. Westafer enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with family.

Scott Gibbons, ODScott Gibbons, OD was raised in Nampa and earned his baccalaureate degree in Health Science Studies from Boise State University. In 2011, he completed his optometry training at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Afterward, he completed a one year intensive optometry residency program in Memphis at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with training in a broad range of ocular disease and treatment. Relocating to northern Nevada in 2012, Dr. Gibbons will continue his focus on evaluation and treatment of ocular problems, including glaucoma, anterior segment, and retinal disease; as well as assisting in post-operative eye care, including co-management of cataract, glaucoma, refractive, and pterygium surgeries. Dr. Gibbons is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Nevada Optometric Association.

Leslie Mays, RNLeslie Mays, RN, APRN is a fourth generation Nevadan who grew up in Minden. She got her nursing degree at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007 and worked in the Intensive Care/Trauma arena until going back to school in 2012. She graduated with her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2014 from Walden University. In addition, she commissioned as a nurse in the United States Air Force in 2009 and continues to serve today. She is excited to be a part of the Sierra Nevada Eye Center team and is proud to work in the community that she has always known as home.

Leslie is board certified in Family Practice and holds professional membership with the Nevada Advanced Practice Nurse Association as well as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
